If you’ve been dying to spend a lot of money on a docuseries, I’ve got some good news for you. According to reports, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $100 million Netflix contract is not being renewed. Any bidders?
People reported that Harry and Meghan’s contract is up in September and that the streamer is opting not to renew it. Apparently, this is not a reflection of the couple’s standing with Netflix but rather a shift in how the company is doing business. Barack and Michelle Obama, who signed a similarly splashy deal with Netflix in 2018, recently saw their partnership with the company morph into a first-look deal rather than the pricier, exclusive contract they initially signed. According to “Page Six,” Harry and Meghan are set to sign a similar deal with Netflix when their contract is up.
While a source told The Sun that there is “no animosity from either side” and “things have just run their course,” the course in question has been kind of rocky. Their docuseries, Harry & Meghan, never really reached the same heights as their famous Oprah interview. Then came the Harry-produced show about polo that one critic called “destined to fall through the submenus into obscurity at the speed of light.”

Their latest offering, With Love, Meghan, is getting a second season this September, so Meghan did something right there. Earlier this year, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos told Variety that the company was a “passive partner” in As Ever, Meghan’s jam and wine company, so maybe this is where they see the opportunity to finally make some of their investment back.
For those of you nervous that this news means Meghan will never get the chance to invite more famous women she sort of knows to Montecito, fear not. “There are more TV projects coming soon with both the duke and duchess,” a source told “Page Six.” Maybe they could host the next season of Love Is Blind.
