It’s no secret that most people in the dating trenches are really going through it. AI is making the already-terrible landscape of online dating a total nightmare, celebrities are getting ghosted, and it seems like romantic solace can only be found in the arms of younger men. You know who else is fed up? British pop star Lily Allen.
The singer, who’s been alluding to separating from David Harbour since 2024, is apparently having a tough time getting back out there. “The dating scene is much harder as a 40-year-old woman with two teenage children than it is for a 34-year-old woman,” Allen told Perfect Magazine, describing her prospects as “bitterly disappointing.” “There’s an element of humiliation and shame,” she continued. “The world doesn’t portray women of my age as being desirable. And it just feels like climbing up a mountain.”
Allen also said that her imminent album, West End Girl, tells “the story of a broken marriage and a series of betrayals.” It may or may not be about her relationship with Harbour, most known for his role as a cop in Stranger Things, whom she married in 2020 in a Las Vegas ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator. They reportedly separated after four years of marriage after Allen caught Harbour using the dating app Raya, per the Daily Mail. At the time, a source told People that she was “devastated and not in a good place.”

“I know that what I have to do is to be able to make myself happy and that is a source of extreme irritation for me,” Allen said. “And it means doing the fucking work, and I feel like I’ve been doing the work for fucking ages. I’m exhausted by it. And I thought it was done. I thought it was happily ever after, you know?” Might I suggest she lower her Raya age range to 23?
