There are a ton of celebrities expected to attend the Met Gala this year, but now we know one person who definitely won’t be there: the heir to the Kennedy throne in little bike shorts, Jack Schlossberg.
Schlossberg, who is famously always posting, released a bunch of videos on Thursday announcing that he was boycotting the event because “it’s not the time for a party like that.” He did not exactly specify what “time” “that” was — in one video of him paddleboarding away from the camera, he simply said there was “so much happening around the world and at home” that he “cannot in good conscience go to the Met Gala.”
The clearest indication Schlossberg gave for the basis of his boycott was a screenshot he posted of the Google AI overview for “boycott met gala,” which noted the event has been boycotted for its “perceived opulence” and “juxtaposition with global crises, particularly the ongoing conflict in Gaza.” Speaking in his own words without the assistance of AI, he simply called it a “PATHETIC EVENT FOR CORPORATE SLUTS.”
Schlossberg also used the boycott to promote a new project he plans to launch sometime around the Meta Gala. “Instead of partying,” he said he would “be focused on launching my new live channel.” In another post, he called on Vogue to “focus on issues and use their platform to take a stand.”

This campaign is quite the heel turn for Schlossberg, who joined Vogue as a political correspondent last summer (a hire the publication showily announced with a photo shoot and interview). He hasn’t written for the magazine since October, but he included a screenshot of his Vogue shoot in one of his new posts, writing, “I GUESS I SHOULD’VE KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT — then I’d have fit in at the MET GALA.” In another tweet, he apologized to his former boss: “Sorry ANNA.”

Schlossberg last attended the Met Gala in 2017 with his mother, Caroline Kennedy, but it’s unclear if he was invited this year. Obviously, it sounds like he won’t be there either way. It’s just not the time!
