A lot has happened since Kim Kardashian officiated Chris Appleton and Lukas Gage’s Las Vegas wedding in April 2023. The two grooms have gotten a divorce, for one, and Gage has also called their six-month marriage “unhinged” and hinted that he’s unable to talk about the situation because of a “three-letter thing” he signed. Now, it’s Appleton’s turn to speak — and while he didn’t mention any NDAs, he is opening up about the pain their breakup caused him.
During the Wednesday, August 6 episode of Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose, Appleton said that, from the outside, people probably assume that he has it all together. “I work with these amazing people, life looks glamorous … but the truth is, especially during that time, I was going through a lot of private pain,” the celebrity hairstylist said. Appleton credits working with a therapist for getting him through his six-month marriage and subsequent divorce. “That is really brutal, to go through it, but for me, coming out the other side, there’s a part of you that feels like you can reflect on it and move on,” he said.

Looking back, Appleton says he’s still grateful for the whole experience — even if it didn’t last. “Moving fast doesn’t always mean you’re reckless. I think sometimes it means you’re hopeful,” he said. “Any relationship I’ve ever been in, I’ve gone into with an open heart. And I have no regrets about that … I would rather love and fall than to never feel anything at all.”
Last year, Gage spoke about his side of the divorce during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I don’t know literally what went through my head, but we live and we learn,” Gage said, calling the marriage “probably one of the most unhinged things I’ve ever done in my life.” Can’t argue with that!
