Fresh off of going toe-to-toe with Donald Trump at Davos, Canadian prime minister Mark Carney turned to an even more pressing diplomatic commitment on Thursday: celebrating the crown jewel of Canadian pop culture that is Heated Rivalry. Carney made an appearance with Hudson Williams at Prime Time, an annual conference in Ottawa put on by the Canadian Media Producers Association, and well, he looked exactly how I would if I ever came face-to-face with the Shane Hollander:
Williams gave the prime minister his signature Team Canada fleece jacket from the show, which Williams compared to a knighting. “I’ve made it! Finally!” Carney responded, looking positively elated to put on the jacket. At one point, Carney requested Williams “do the leg thing” — pop his knee up so Carney could hold him by the thigh — and Williams, the ever-dutiful Canadian, indeed did “the leg thing.”

In his keynote speech at the event, Carney praised Heated Rivalry for standing for the “fundamental Canadian value” that “people should be able to be whoever they want to be, to love whoever they want to love.” “Congratulations on creating a story that has struck a chord with so many across this country and around the world,” he said. “Because of you, cottage season will have a whole new meaning this summer.”
