August is a magical month on Martha’s Vineyard. This week specifically is extra special, with the start of the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, an annual celebration of Black cinema, filmmakers, acclaimed documentaries, and more.
On Wednesday night, the Cut hosted a dinner in partnership with Aramis to celebrate the launch of Intuition by Aramis, a new modern men’s fragrance (think lavender and juicy grapefruit). While the scent is new, Aramis isn’t — the fragrance brand was founded and launched by Mrs. Estée Lauder in 1963, the first prestige men’s fragrance sold in department stores. Over 60 years later, Aramis has tapped Dwyane Wade as its brand ambassador. Attendees of the celebratory dinner included Wade, Gabrielle Union, Lynn Whitfield, Susan Kelechi Watson, Abby Phillip, the film festival co-founders Floyd and Stephanie Rance, and more.

There’s no better place to usher in the new era than the Vineyard, specifically Atria, an American restaurant in the heart of Edgartown, a historic area on the island. The restaurant served us lobster rolls and lobster (the surf-and-turf option was the menu winner of the night), roasted chicken, burrata, and more. “In a summer full of events, it was an incredible honor to have so many people not only join us, but stay and savor the evening,” the Cut’s editor-in-chief, Lindsay Peoples, said. “The Cut’s weeklong takeover on Martha’s Vineyard was a celebration of community and culture, and I’m already looking forward to bringing that energy back next year.” Scroll along for a peek into the night.
