What’s that strange feeling? Is it déjà vu? Twnety-two years after Disney released Freaky Friday, the beloved body-swap classic starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan is coming back with a reboot directed by Nisha Ganatra. Freakier Friday arrives in theaters on August 8, and judging by the first trailer, which came out today, it lives up to his name.
It begins with mom-daughter duo Tess and Anna sitting in front of a palm reader (Vanessa Bayer), who spookily observes that their lifelines seem to have intersected before. Then, as fate would have it, they wake up and they’re no longer in their own bodies, again. Only this time, they’ve swapped not with each other, but with Anna’s daughter and stepdaughter. “My face looks like a Birkin bag that’s been left out into the sun to rot!” Tess-but-not-Tess screams. As you can probably guess, chaos ensues. But don’t worry, some things haven’t changed — Chad Michael Murray will be riding a motorcycle.
