Tonight, several performers on the Emmys red carpet are using all of the eyes on them to advocate for Palestine and call for an immediate cease-fire in the country’s war with Israel. Some wore buttons, Meg Stalter used her purse, and Javier Bardem even showed up in a keffiyeh — and they all looked great.
Hannah Einbinder, Ruth Negga, Chris Perfetti, and Aimee Lou Wood all showed up to the awards show wearing red Artists4Ceasefire pins.
Stalter went for an even bigger statement. As part of her laid-back look, she carried a purse that read “Cease Fire!” in black marker. When asked about it, the Hacks star said that it was important to use an event like the Emmys to speak out. “It’s the most important to stick up for people and for peace and to ask for an end to war,” Stalter told Variety. “What’s the point of being at these big events if you’re not going to use your privilege?”

Bardem was really not messing around. He wore a Palestinian keffiyeh on the red carpet and told Variety that he “cannot work with somebody that justifies or supports the genocide.”
If that wasn’t clear enough for you, Bardem also had a very to-the-point message:
During the actual awards ceremony, Einbinder won for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy and capped off her speech with a blunt message:
As the starvation crisis in Gaza gets worse every day, more and more A-listers have come forward in support of Palestine. Bardem, Wood, and Einbinder are three of the many actors who pledged not to work with Israeli companies and institutions that are “implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.”
